Trabzon is about 1,070 km and 13 driving hours east of our Istanbul Beylikduzu base along the Black Sea coast road. It is not a weekend trip — plan 8 to 10 days and let the drive become part of the journey.
This is the longest route in our fleet and the one that needs the most planning. Aydeniz Caravan operates from a single base in Istanbul Beylikduzu; we have no branch in Trabzon. From Beylikduzu it is roughly 1,070 km along the D010 coast road — 13 to 14 hours of driving, realistically split across two days in a campervan. You have two options. Collect the vehicle in Beylikduzu and make the drive part of the trip: Amasra, Sinop, Ordu and Giresun all sit on the same road. Or book scheduled delivery, which at this distance is a bespoke, extra-cost arrangement we organise on request rather than a standing service — please talk to us at least 3-4 weeks ahead so we can confirm availability.
Two stops come first for almost everyone: Sumela and Uzungol. Sumela Monastery sits inside the Altindere Valley near Macka, about 47 km and an hour from the city centre. The final stretch up to the monastery is narrow and steep, so with a larger caravan the sensible move is to park at the valley entrance and take the shuttle or walk up. Uzungol is 99 km away, roughly two hours: the road turning inland from Of towards Caykara climbs continuously through tight bends to the lake at 1,100 metres. The lakeside gets genuinely crowded in summer — arrive early, or continue 8-10 km higher towards Sekersu and Demirkapi for a much quieter overnight stop.
Ayder Plateau is administratively in Rize but inseparable from the Eastern Black Sea route: about 165 km and three hours from Trabzon, at 1,350 metres. Past Camlihemsin the road narrows noticeably and vehicle restrictions can apply at the plateau entrance in high season, so leave the campervan in the car park below and take the shuttle up. The tracks to Pokut, Sal and Gito, by contrast, are unsurfaced, narrow and very steep — we do not recommend taking a caravan on them. Leave the vehicle near Camlihemsin and do that section by 4x4 or local minibus. The season here is short: the plateaus usually open in early June and close with the snow at the end of September, and rain is possible in every month, including July and August.

Sumela Monastery - Altindere Valley
47 km and one hour from the centre. The final climb is narrow and steep — park larger caravans at the valley entrance and take the shuttle.
Uzungol
99 km, about two hours, at 1,100 m. The Of–Caykara road climbs continuously through tight bends. Arrive early in summer.
Sekersu - Demirkapi Plateaus
8-10 km above Uzungol; far quieter than the lakeside. Open roughly June to September.
Ayder Plateau
165 km, three hours, at 1,350 m. The road narrows after Camlihemsin and vehicle limits can apply in summer — use the shuttle.
Pokut - Sal Plateau
Unsurfaced, narrow and very steep. Not suitable for a campervan — leave the vehicle at Camlihemsin and go up by 4x4 or minibus.
Zigana - Hamsikoy
55 km from the centre; paved and easy with a caravan. A natural stop if you return via Gumushane.

Do you deliver campervans to Trabzon?
Our base is Istanbul Beylikduzu and we have no branch in Trabzon. Most guests collect the vehicle in Beylikduzu and drive the coast road, which is a fine trip in itself. Delivery to the region is possible but, at roughly 1,070 km, it is a bespoke extra-cost arrangement organised on request rather than a standing service. Please contact us at least 3-4 weeks in advance so we can confirm availability and quote a fee.
How many days does the drive from Istanbul take?
About 1,070 km and 13-14 hours along the D010 coast road. We do not recommend doing it in one day with a campervan. Most guests split it: night one in Amasra or Sinop, then down through Ordu and Giresun to Trabzon on day two. Returning via Zigana and Gumushane gives you a different inland route home.
Can I take a campervan up to Ayder and the plateaus?
Ayder yes, with a caveat: the road narrows after Camlihemsin and vehicle restrictions can apply at the entrance in high season, so park below and take the shuttle. Pokut, Sal and Gito are a different matter — those tracks are unsurfaced, narrow and very steep, and we advise against driving a caravan on them. Leave the vehicle near Camlihemsin and continue by 4x4 or local minibus.
When is the best time to visit?
June to September is the only realistic window for the plateaus: roads usually open in early June and close with snow at the end of September. Uzungol and Sumela stay open most of the year. July and August are busiest, while June and September are quieter and just as green. Expect rain in any month, and cold nights even in August — heating is standard in our fleet and you will use it.
