Tekirdag sits on the northern shore of the Sea of Marmara, in Thrace — the part of Turkey that lies on the European continent. From our Istanbul Beylikduzu base it is roughly 90 km (1 hour 15 minutes) to Tekirdag centre, 60 km to Corlu and just 30 km to Silivri, so we deliver campervans to addresses right across this area. The coast road west of Tekirdag is one of the quietest drives in the country. Kumbag is the first stop, 12 km from the centre, with fish restaurants and easy roadside parking. Beyond it the Ganos mountain drops straight into the sea; the village of Ucmakdere on its slopes is one of Turkey's best-known paragliding launch sites. Further west, Sarkoy has the region's most developed beaches, a marina and proper campsites with electricity and water hookups.

Thrace is also Turkey's oldest wine region. The Sarkoy-Murefte vineyards run along the southern slopes of Ganos, cooled by air rising off the sea, and September brings the harvest. Travelling by campervan solves the obvious problem: you visit boutique producers during the day and sleep in your own vehicle instead of driving back. And because Istanbul is only two hours away, the whole route works as a single weekend rather than a full holiday.
